Emergency Management

Emergency management is the field in which leaders construct a foundation to minimize vulnerability from threats and hazards. Emergency managers work to promote safer communities by coordinating public safety agencies and conducting community outreach.

Emergency Services

These agencies employ the majority of public safety officials who work out in the field, such as police officers, firefighters, and EMTs. Primarily, these agencies work to provide community safety, reduce criminal activity, respond to emergencies, and even enact medical services.

Homeland Security

Homeland security is the effort to ensure domestic security from both natural and man-made disasters. This area of public safety can be public policy-orientated in that it can encompass developing new policies, lobbying, and enacting legislature.

Innovative and effective technology has become a critical tool within all areas of public safety. Public safety professionals use technology to predict likely disasters, find vulnerable populations, coordinate resources, and track escalating emergencies.
